More Sun Exposure, More Skin Cancer

It should come as no big surprise that the more time we spend outdoors, the more likely we are to get skin cancer. And statistics show that more of us here in northwestern South Carolina are spending more time involved in outdoor activities  – sports, hiking, camping, cycling, fishing and hunting than ever. As a result, skin cancer cases are on the rise. You probably know someone who has had skin cancer treated and/or removed. You should know that:

  • Skin cancer is increasing due to more outdoor sun exposure
  • Skin cancer on the face is particularly concerning to people
  • Most people prefer having a specialist treat/remove their facial skin cancers

There are three main types of skin cancer

  • Basal cell carcinoma – The most common type of skin cancer, basal cell carcinoma first appears as a small pink lump or patch. Although most common on sun-exposed areas such as the face and arms, it can also develop in non-sun-exposed areas. People with light-coloured skin and blue eyes are more prone to this cancer. Many different treatment options are available. It rarely spreads to other parts of the body and has a very high cure rate.

  • Melanoma – More common in younger patients, melanoma is the most serious form of the three main types of skin cancer and can spread throughout the body. Luckily, if detected early, treatment is successful more than 99% of the time. It can arise in people with fair skin and a history of sunburn, or those people with many moles or freckles. Melanoma is responsible for more than 90% of all skin cancer deaths.

  • Squamous cell carcinoma – Similar to basal cell carcinoma, this form of skin cancer is found predominantly on sun-exposed light-skinned individuals. Squamous cell carcinoma appears as a pink-red lump or patch but is usually quite scaly. Although it has a slightly higher tendency to spread, it is still generally easily treated if detected early.

The Antidote for Sagging, Drooping, Tired-Looking Eyelids

One of the most common complaints we hear is about the eyes looking tired due to saggy, drooping eyelids. This tends to make people look older than they really are, and much older than they often feel inside. At Anderson ENT & Facial Plastics in Anderson, SC, we have the perfect antidote for eyelid problems. Blepharoplasty is the medical name for eyelid enhancing surgery. And Dr. Dole Baker is the dual board-certified physician and facial plastic surgeon who delivers the antidote.

Thanks to his surgical training, skill and experience, people come from all over South Carolina to achieve more youthful looking eyes and to look younger. By removing excess skin and fat from the upper and lower eyelids, we can restore a much more youthful, alert and vibrant look to the eyes and the face. The greatest advantage to blepharoplasty is its ability to make you look younger. But it's not just about appearances. For many patients, the procedure can also improve their vision by removing excess eyelid tissue and expanding their visual field. Some other advantages of blepharoplasty are:

  • Effective for men and women
  • Virtually guaranteed to make you look younger
  • May improve your vision and peripheral vision
  • Short recovery time (about one week)
  • Easy recovery

Using tiny hidden incisions, blepharoplasty carefully trims away excess fat and skin from the delicate upper and lower eyelids and reshapes their contours to deliver a youthful, energized expression.

Enjoy a Change of Face

The ravages of time can alter the appearance of your face, making you look tired, sad and sometimes older than you are. Dole Baker, MD, is double board-certified in facial plastic surgery and otolaryngology–head and neck surgery, with over 15 years of experience in facial rejuvenation.

Using an arsenal of surgical advancements, Dr. Baker can safely and quickly uplift timeworn features to refresh your look and renew your self-confidence. And because of his expertise in facial anatomy, you can rest assured your results will look completely natural. Dr Baker performs:

  • Face lift and mini-lift: Performed alone or in combination with other procedures to lift or remove sagging, excess skin on the face and adjust the remaining skin and muscle to create a younger-looking, firmer and more refreshed appearance. Dr. Baker offers both minimally invasive and more extensive lift procedures, customizing treatment plans for each patient’s needs and desires.

  • Brow and neck lifts: Brow lift options include the hairline-incision endoscopic lift and traditional open brow lift to smooth and contour furrowed foreheads and open up the eyes. The result is a rested, refreshed and rejuvenated appearance. A neck lift removes jowls, excess sagging and creasing of the neck, creating a smoother, tighter and more attractive neck area and taking years off your appearance.

  • Blepharoplasty (eyelid lift): Using tiny hidden incisions, blepharoplasty carefully trims away excess fat and skin from the delicate upper and lower eyelids and reshapes their contours to deliver a youthful, energized expression.

Today’s most advanced surgical methods can give your face a more youthful, natural and rejuvenated look. Excess fat in the neck and face can be removed via liposuction. Dr. Baker can correct some of the facial architectural changes that occur naturally over time.

So, are you ready for a change of face?

Rhinoplasty (nose job): Dr. Baker is expert at changing the size and shape of the nose to better fit facial proportions. As a board-certified ENT, he can also ensure that optimal breathing function is achieved or maintained by the surgical procedure.
